History and background -- status 1/8/2024
The DRD5 proposal
has been approved on 6/6/2024 by CERN's
Research Board, after having been recommended by CERN's DRDC (Detector R & D Committee)
based on the submitted proposal and a
presentation to the DRDC on June 4th.
The collaboration is now in the process of being formed.
The proposal is an implementation of the ECFA detector R&D roadmap for quantum sensing for particle physics and proceeded in several steps: first a workshop among conveners, then the writing of a White Paper (evolving draft) based on this workshop, but with involvement of the different communities interacting with the conveners, and finally the drafting of the DRD5 Proposal (submitted version of May 16, 2024) based on the White paper and input from the wider community at an open workshop that took place at CERN on Oct. 2-4, 2023.
This proposal has been submitted to a CERN scientific committee, the DRDC on May 16, 2024, after feedback and minor corrections from the different interested communities, with the aim of forming a dedicated collaboration (DRD5/RDq).
A document describing the process can be found here.
A workshop on the different quantum sensor families of the ECFA roadmap (represented both by the conveners
themselves, as well as based on the submissions to a
call for contributions)
took place at CERN from April 2-5, 2023. The outcome of this workshop is
two-fold:
Minutes of the workshop. These minutes provide an overview of the presentations and discussions surrounding the many activities in the field of quantum technologies and related areas, and highlight some possible Work Packages (WP's) for the implementation phase.
White Paper (draft only). This White Paper is structured around these WP's and is geared towards preparing a LOI that structures these activities within a proto-collaboration, named DRD5 / RDq.
